Essential Information About Pearly Penile Papules

04/22/2021

Before getting more worked up, I decided to hop online and see what information I could find out. I also speedily booked an appointment with my family doctor for the first available opening. While the little bumps were painless and pretty harmless looking, I wanted to make sure this wasn't some sort of disease I could pass along to my next sexual partner or - even worse - something like cancer.

So, I logged online and typed several different phrases into search engines. "Penis bumps" brought up images that looked like my situation. Some articles labeled them as pearly penile papules and I decided to further refine my image search from there. Are these things harmful? Are they contagious? What is the treatment? How do I get rid of them? Do I need to notify my previous sexual partners? What can my doctor do? Naturally, there were a million questions running through my head.

Most of the articles online assured me that pearly penile papules are completely benign and harmless. However, I decided to stick with my doctor's appointment just to be sure. It was going to be a couple of days before he could see me in his office, but I figured it would be better to be safe than sorry. In the meantime, I washed and dried my penis as I normally do and took care not to pick or disturb the little bumps. I figured if this was a benign condition, there must be a relatively simple way to treat it. And as long as it wasn't contagious, I didn't have to worry about the hassle of contacting all of my old sexual partners along the way.

By the time I headed over to my doctor's office a few days later, I was fully armed with all of the information the internet could provide on pearly penile papules. I was pretty convinced that's what I had, but wanted a second - and much more professional - opinion to ease my mind. Plus, I wanted the doctor to tell me it would be easy to treat and remove. I can't imagine any future sexual partner looking at my penis and believing me when I tell them the bumps are harmless and not at all contagious. She would probably look up at me and say, "Yah, right. See ya' later buddy."

My doctor was kind enough to field all sorts of questions I had on these little weird bumps. He assured me they are completely benign, are not contagious, and are not usually accompanied by any other sort of symptoms. They most certainly were not an indicator that I had caught a sexually transmitted disease or had developed cancer. What a relief!
